Nitinol is a nickel-titanium alloy containing about 55% nickel and 45% titanium. This specific composition allows it to exhibit its shape memory and superelasticity, which cause it to recover its original shape upon deformation. Nitinol is mechanically characterized by high corrosion resistance, tensile strength of 550–700 MPa, and yield strength of 200–300 MPa, and very good fatigue life. Its transformation temperature can be varied for special applications, increasing versatility. These inclusive properties make Nitinol sheets and plates extremely reliable for demanding industries that need endurance, flexibility, and superior performance under fluctuating conditions of working.
