Kovar plates and sheets are essentially made up of 29% nickel, 17% cobalt, and 54% iron and are designed to closely match borosilicate glass’s thermal expansion. This special alloy has outstanding mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability. Kovar generally has a tensile strength of 450 to 550 MPa and a yield strength of about 350 MPa with good elongation of about 20%. Its thermal expansion coefficient of around 5 × 10⁻⁶ /°C provides minimal stress on temperature changes, which makes it the best choice for hermetic sealing and precision components.
