Inconel 617 is a nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy that has superior strength, oxidation resistance, and metallurgical stability at elevated temperatures up to 1100°C. The alloy consists of 44.5–61% nickel, 20–24% chromium, 8–10% cobalt, and 9–10% molybdenum. Inconel 617 fasteners possess tensile strength of about 540 MPa and yield strength of approximately 300 MPa, with good elongation and resistance to creep. Mechanical properties are constant under both high thermal stress and corrosive conditions. The alloy is also resistant to carburization, sulfidation, and chloride corrosion, and hence is employed in fasteners for high-temperature and corrosive industrial applications.
